Choosing a facility for yourself or your family member can be overwhelming; however there are resources to help make these life changing decisions. Educate yourself about your options, which include contacting the Area Agency on Aging in your area and speaking to the local ombudsman.

The ombudsman is the resident advocate for people living in a long term care facility. They can provide you with consumer tips, comparison tools and answer any questions you might have. In addition, visiting the potential facilities is highly recommended. Ask to sample the food, talk to residents, and look at the activities being provided. Part of the research should include reviewing the facility’s most recent survey which will tell you how the facility
did on its last state inspection and is available upon request at all facilities.

Included in this guide are both nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

For facilities outside of Missoula, please contact your closest office on aging at 1-800-551-3191.
